Q & A Portugal, Minimalism, and Life Update

Thank you guys so much for submitting your questions! Here is a little life update for you

Q: How long do you think you will be in Portugal?

A: Let's just say, I'm not planning to leave anytime soon. If it were up to me, I would stay for good. But there are so many factors involved. The biggest one is our visa renewal which is totally out of our control. I'm just taking it day by day But also not shying away from building a life here in Portugal.

Q: How do you feel being back in Portugal?

A: Surreal. It hasn't fully hit me yet. But I wake up every day with an overwhelming feeling of happiness and gratefulness. That's a good sign! Also, it feels different the second time around. I feel more comfortable already.

Q: What's the thing you enjoy most about living in Lisbon?

A: Oh I would rather show you through my videos than tell you :)

Q: Did you use a shipping container?

A: No we didn't. We wanted to but there was a change of plan last minute. We brought what we could (6 luggages). But we will go and grab the rest of our stuff next summer from Maui.

Q: Just curious how you sustain financially your regular moving out

A: We've been renting fully furnished places and trying to buy as little as possible. It makes the moving out process easier and we do all the work ourselves. My husband and I are both grateful to have jobs that allow time flexibility. And to be honest, all the moving wasn't planned. It has not been my ideal situation. But we just try to be financially savvy and cut costs where we can.

Q: Are you still committed to minimalism now that you moved to a city lifestyle?

A: Absolutely! I still stick to the rule..."If it's not 1000% YES, then I don't need it in my life." The best thing about living in a city is that there are so many free things to do. My calendar already has the free museum days, and I can't wait to check out the flea markets, libraries, and neighborhoods, which is all free.

Q: Are you in Lisbon or a different city?

A: We were in the Algarve last time, but this time we are in Lisbon because of my husband.

Q: Was it difficult moving again after the trouble with your paperwork the first time?

A: It wasn't difficult at all since we are still residents of Portugal. We will have to renew our visa in December, so wish us luck!

Q: How do you deal with aesthetics/trends on the internet and resist the urge to buy new stuff?

A: Through many decluttering sessions, I've realized that the trendy/aesthetic stuff I bought are the things I always get rid of first. I always remind myself of this when I'm tempted to buy something. Also, I talk about this so much, but I always use the wishlist system and wait to see if it's just impulse.

Q: Do you feel judgement /pressure from family/friends on being a minimalist?

A: Maybe in the beginning, but I knew it was all coming from the best intentions. But now, I think I've even converted some of them to practice minimalism in their own lives :)

Q: What's your star sign?

A: Scorpio

Q: How to handle different opinions while it comes to living and work life?

A: Empathy and openness. But also trusting yourself. Everyone will have different views depending on their upbringing, culture, and background and there is no one way of living that is better than the others. If people disagree with my way of living, minimalism and slow living, that's ok. But I trust that I know what works for me.

Q: How does slow living work with a traditional 9-5?

A: To me, slow living is just a mindful approach to life where we prioritize wellness and balance. I think we can absolutely have this mindset with a 9-5 lifestyle. When I was working a traditional 8-4 job, I started asking myself "What can I do to find more balance? how am I spending my free time? What am I prioritizing? What needs to change?" and made changes in my life

Q: Will you do an updated capsule wardrobe video? entire collection?

A: Yes! I will include fall and winter items too

Q: Where is your jewelry from?

A: I have a lot from Mejuri. And also I love buying them at flea markets or artists' fairs because they are so unique.

Q: How do you find amazing clothes online without trying them on?

A: I am very picky when it comes to buying clothes. It has to meet my preferred measurements, color palette, material composition, shape and size..etc. Also, I avoid specific brands (like Free People or Anthropologie. Although I love their designs, I always end up returning the items for some reason!). I haven't bought anything online in a while because I prefer shopping in person.

Q: What books can I read in order to start my journey as a minimalist?

A: I have a few options on my website

Q: How do you trust yourself during this season of uncertainty?

A: I always ask myself, "what's the worst that could happen?" and the outcome is never as bad as I think.
